The new M.A.D.1 Green raffle lottery is open for the next two weeks
Zach BlassIn June 2021, Max Büsser unveiled the M.A.D.Editions brands with a M.A.D.1 wristwatch that served as a thank you to loyal clients and suppliers of MB&F. When these rare creations started surfacing in the wild, and when news broke of a more affordable watch created by Max Büsser and his friends, that was not purchasable buy the public, the watch world went… well.. mad. It was then clear, with the right strategy that did not compromise the operations of MB&F, this was his opportunity to fulfill a longstanding wish. Max, upon launching MB&F, also had an idea for a parallel watch brand – an accessible foil to MB&F. With friends and family all wishing they could have a watch of his design, yet, understandably, not having the means to purchase them, it was Max’s wish to develop such a watch he could offer. The M.A.D.1 Green is the latest in this line, launching with a new series of 1,500 pieces.
The initial blue version that was limited to “the tribe” of clients, suppliers, and journalistic friends of the brand was limited to just a few hundred pieces. After the frenzy this VIP exclusive creation caused, Max decided to follow up a year later with the M.A.D.1 Red. Well aware of rampant flipping and the desire for fair access amongst the watch community, it was determined that a raffle lottery system, while not perfect, would offer the best and most fair experience for interested buyers. So, with an initial batch 1,500 M.A.D.1 Reds, the allocations were spread between a lottery and accumulated list of those who had expressed interest from the outset of M.A.D.Editions that were unable to get one of the original blue M.A.D.1 watches. Priority was given to this list, with the remainder offered to the lottery winners. To MB&F’s surprise, however, after scrubbing the list of multiple entries and bots, the final lottery registration list had 19,000 registrations.
After realizing just how much demand dwarfed supply, MB&F kindly decided to manufacture a second batch of 1,500 through a second raffle a year later. This time 22,000 eager buyers registered for the raffle. This meant only around 7% of registrants would walk away with a chance to purchase one. I mention this to contextualise just how sought-after these pieces are, and prepare you for how challenging it is to win the lottery. But, it is free to enter and everyone gets a fair shake. So, I absolutely encourage you, should you genuinely want one of these watches for your collection and can spend the CHF 2,900 plus tax should you win, to enter. I am lucky enough to own the M.A.D.1 Red, and it never ceases to bring a smile to my face each time I put it on. At 42mm in diameter, and 50 or so millimetres lug-to-lug, from a modern perspective it is not so demanding in size. But, it is a thick watch. So, if you are irked by anything that is not cuff-friendly or traditional this is probably not for you.
Now, you are probably wondering how the raffle will work this time around. MB&F explains: “The new batch of 1,500 pieces with the green colourway will be available via the usual M.A.D.Editions’ raffle system where watch lovers can sign up for a ticket on the M.A.D.Gallery e- shop. The raffle will be open for registrations from September 12th, for two weeks, and after filtering and cleaning of the list, the tickets will go into a draw (as always, supervised by a bailiff) with the lucky winners being chosen at random. Results will be announced in early October and deliveries scheduled between October 2023 and April 2024.”
To quote Hunger Games: “May the odds ever be in your favour.”
