If you’ve read any previous Boldr article on Time+Tide, you would’ve noted the general enthusiasm about the excellent value proposition the brand presents. Whether that’s with a sub-A$500 mechanical, titanium watch or a well-specced Seiko GMT-powered all-rounder, we’re long-time fans of their outdoorsy aesthetic, too. For that very reason, we’re excited to add Boldr to the Time+Tide Shop with the watches available to our global audience. Unlike many new brands, Boldr did not enjoy a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign that got them the necessary eyeballs. It was in fact, quite the opposite. Becoming fully funded in just over a day, reaching US$120,000 at its peak, the Boldr Voyage was slated for success, but amid unprompted surges in supplier and certification pricing, the brand was forced to cancel the campaign. Nevertheless, the Singaporean-Malaysian trio persevered, backed by support from their original backers and launched another, this time properly successful campaign for the Boldr Journey – you can read the whole story here, as told by founder Leon Leong. Venture

Among all of Boldr’s collections, the Venture is likely the most recognisable one. Its no-nonsense styling and comfortable case dimensions have made it the standout for those looking for an alternative field watch option. The Venture collection is home to the aforementioned value king, as there aren’t many watches around that combine its specifications, quality and price. Classic dial colours like white and black are available, as are more interesting shades like petrol blue.

For a bit more added utility, there’s the Miyota-powered Venture Wayfarer with its 24-hour sub-dial and date window, but the versatility of this collection doesn’t stop there.

With mechaquartz chronographs and a couple of 200-metre divers, the Venture collection offers plenty of variation in this particular case design.

Odyssey Freediver

From a subtle field-type watch with vintage styling cues, we go to a bold and modern 300-metre diver cased in 44mm stainless-steel cases. The Odyssey Freediver collection is also an upgrade in terms of specs, with all models sporting the high-beat Miyota 9000-series of calibres for both the time-only and GMT models. The mutli-faceted case isn’t the only contemporary touch, with this extending to the transparent gradient dials.

Safari

Back to the vintage-inspired styling, the Boldr Safari Ranger could easily pass for a 1950s field watch with its looks, save maybe for the funky brand logo. The 40mm steel case, however, is certainly a touch more contemporary, as is the great lume of the charming California dial.

Finally, it’s one of the most versatile offerings in the entire Boldr collection, named after the Serengeti National Park and Maasai Mara reserve, two of Africa’s most incredible natural habitats. The 40mm steel case, 200-metre water resistance and NH34 GMT movement make the Safari GMT the ideal everyday wear. The matte blue or green Cali dials are protected by AR-coated sapphire.
