Tyson Fury’s new reality TV series looks set to be a watchspotter’s delight
Luke BenedictusTyson Fury has always had an eye for a nice watch. As Anthony Joshua once recalled, back when he was an amateur, Fury would go around London gyms looking for sparring partners and offering anyone his Rolex if they managed to knock him out. It’s a passion that has endured as he’s become one of the most formidable heavyweights of the modern era. When the Gypsy King appeared on GQ’s YouTube channel in a video called “10 Things Tyson Fury Can’t Live Without”, one of the boxer’s self-professed must-haves was his 60th Anniversary Rolex Day-Date 40 in solid 18k Everose gold with olive green dial (Ref.228235). Fury claimed he was never without the watch, wearing it everywhere, whether it be swimming, sleeping, showering or eating. Except now it seems his beloved watch has competition, judging by the trailer for the new reality TV series, At Home with the Furys.
The blurb on the soon-to-be released Netflix is set up as follows: “Undefeated heavyweight champion Tyson Fury retires from boxing to embrace the eccentricities of family life in this hilarious and heartfelt docusoap.”
But the two-minute long trailer suggests the series might hold much promise for the eagle-eyed watchspotter. Tyson himself is seen wearing a Rolex Oyster Perpetual with the can’t-miss-it red coral dial. That the boxer has plumped for perhaps the boldest colour in the OP family isn’t a huge surprise either for a man who’s previously turned up to press conferences dressed in a Batman outfit complete with cape.
His son Tommy Fury also seems to have inherited the family penchant for Rolex, appearing with a gold Day-Date on his wrist. Then again, Tommy would need a decent watch to keep up with his partner. The boxer met Molly-Mae Hague on Love Island and the pair have a baby daughter together.
But Molly-Mae is no slouch in the wristwear department with her collection including a Royal Oak, Daytona and a Nautilus to name but three. It’s an early call, but we suspect the watch porn in At Home with the Furys might yet give Succession a run for its money.
