Time+Tide

This is less a recommended reading, and more so a recommended listening or viewing. A long time coming, schedules finally aligned and our Editor Zach Blass was able to join Peri and Ben, two thirds of the trio behind the burgeoning Wrist Check Podcast, to talk watches. Wrist Check explains: “Wrist Check is a weekly podcast hosted by Perri, Ben, and Rashawn – three friends and watch enthusiasts with a deep appreciation for horology, culture, story, art, and design. The show focuses on new watch releases, industry happenings, and interviews with friends, collectors, and purveyors alike.”

In the episode, after an obligatory wrist check where Peri, Ben, and Zach share what they have on their wrists, Zach dives into his horological origin story recounting the moment his interest sparked in watches, and how his relationship evolved with watches from them being a requisite fashion accessory to being a hardcore enthusiast and collector. He then charts his entry into the watch industry, beginning with his time as a Watch Specialist for Piaget in the NYC Hudson Yards boutique to joining the Time+Tide team. Of course, with Zach being a former Piaget Watch Specialist, the Wrist Check guys were eager to get Zach’s perspective on the current state of Piaget and the rising interest in the brand’s vintage watches. They then pick his brain on the state of watch journalism and what sets Time+Tide apart from other publications. But their discussion was not just about Zach and his origins in watch enthusiasm and the watch industry. The group also shares their thoughts on the latest Swatch Group collaboration with Blancpain, questioning the disposable aspects of its design along with speculating what future these collaborations have – are they running out of gas?
