T+T 10 festivities, the unveiling of our Furlan Marri x Time+Tide Limited Edition, and two more watches to come…

Two days ago our T+T 10 festivities kicked off, and while it has certainly been an exciting few days, there is still much more excitement to come.

Andrew with Etienne Malec of Baltic, Andrea Furlan of Furlan Marri and Richard Benc of Studio Underd0g.

To begin, the Time+Tide team and our rich community of readers, listeners, and viewers came together to celebrate the ten-year milestone of Time+Tide. We may poke and jab watch brands for celebrating an anniversary every chance they get, but in celebrating an anniversary of our own, I am beginning to see the appeal and have no desire to wait another ten years to do this again!

With over 100 people in attendance, Andrew and Marcus walked the crowd down memory lane with their distinct brand of zingers, laughs, and wholesome nostalgia. After we all wiped away our happy tears, attendees were treated to not only a sneak peek of our three limited editions launching during these festivities but also a chance to win one for themselves. With all of the attendee’s names on a prize wheel, three spins later three lucky individuals walked away with a free limited edition watch.

Now, two of these limited editions, one from Studio Underd0g and another from Baltic, are still to be revealed to the world. But, last night the first of our trinity of limited editions was unveiled: the Furlan Marri x Time+Tide Outback Elegy. After Andrew’s hosted microbrand masterclass with Andrea Furlan himself, the curtain was pulled on our Outback Elegy watch which notably is also the first-ever Furlan Marri ‘Editions’ – an initiative in which special editions are released and available solely from the retail collaborator. And to our pleasure, there were many ooohs and ahhhhs in the room.

The limited-edition Furlan Marri x Time+Tide Outback Elegy will be limited to 150 pieces. It will be available for pre-orders from the T+T Shop starting 07:00 AET Thursday 25th January, for a 24-hour global sales window. This will be the only opportunity to purchase these pieces online, as thereafter they will only be available for purchase via the Time+Tide Melbourne Discovery Studio. Price: A$2,650 (incl. GST).

Keep your eyes peeled for the next two LEs we’ve made with Studi0 Underdog and Baltic. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Urban Dictionary defines the term ‘girl math’ as a favourable framework of mathematics used in shopping, to make someone feel better about buying an expensive thing. For example, if my bag is $5000, it’s not that expensive, because I wear it 5 days a week, 4 weeks a month, for at least 10 months, so it’s at maximum $25 per wear, and that’s not very expensive.

Effectively, all genders of watch geeks, enthusiasts, and collectors are inevitably guilty of ‘girl math’. If the Tudor I want is $3000, and I wear it 24/7/365 in 2024, it is only $8 per wear for the year… 😂

Wrist shot of the week: Two generations of DSOM on one wrist

With (nearly) the entire Time+Tide team all together in Australia, we woke up one morning to discover a new Speedy had dropped hours earlier. But it just so happened that the Omega boutique across the street from our Time+Tide Discovery Studio already had this new 2024 Apollo 8 Dark Side of the Moon in store! Even better, we brought the 2018 original along with us so we could snap a wrist shot with them side by side. Read more about the difference between the two DSOMs here.

How the humble honey bee helps keep Jaeger-LeCoultre’s high watchmaking buzzing

Back in 2022, Jamie was fortunate enough to be able to visit the Jaeger-LeCoultre manufacture in Le Sentier, Switzerland. After watching one of JLC’s master craftsmen applying anglage to the bridge of a movement, and learning of JLC’s cultivation of bees and production of honey, Jamie aptly drew a connection between the manufacture’s hives and gentian wood – a crucial material in realizing fine anglage finishes. The very large asterisk of vegan leather straps

Vegan leather desktop

Veganism has been around for a long, long time, and it’s only growing in popularity year on year. While the major point of avoiding animal products was once about the well-being of the animals themselves, now a lot of the vegan argument is tied up in the environmental effects of the various industries that surround livestock. The term “vegan leather” has really skyrocketed in the last few years as a result, mainly in the clothing and accessories industries, but also in watch straps. But are vegan leather watch straps actually any good for the planet? Buffy goes in-depth on this topic here.
