While the biggest news of the week was certainly the Snoopy MoonSwatch, which we covered the sales launch live on the ground here, in fear of MoonSwatch fatigue I also wanted to highlight two other exciting announcements from this week: Tudor becoming the Official Timekeeper for Inter Miami CF and the reveal of a new pink Black Bay Chrono.

TUDOR X INTER MIAMI CF 1x

We are all well aware that David Beckham has been a longstanding ambassador for the Tudor brand, so it is perhaps not so surprising that Tudor and Inter Miami CF have partnered up. It is quite frankly an expected development that took unexpectedly long. Tudor explains: “Now, Tudor is the Official Timekeeper of the most exciting football team, which means you will see the Tudor Shield around Inter Miami’s Chase Stadium. Speaking of watches tied to Inter Miami CF, Tudor worked with David Beckham long before the Club was born, and many years ago Tudor presented him with a unique Tudor Pelagos model bearing the Inter Miami CF crest on the dial. David has been wearing that watch for every match. In a way, Tudor has been with Inter Miami CF since day one, only now it’s official.”

What is ultimately exciting about this news is the potential for horological collaboration. As Tudor themselves mentioned, a custom Pelagos was made for David Beckham. But, could we ever see an Inter Miami CF x Tudor watch that is made for public sale? For starters, a new Tudor Black Bay Chrono Pink just made its debut. This watch, however, is not just a tie-in to Inter Miami CF’s bold pink jerseys,  but also connected to ambassador Jay Chou’s penchant of wearing pink and to the fact the leader of the Giro d’Italia wears a pink jersey as well. Now, while a pink wardrobe may be bold within the context of sport, Tudor may be overhyping how bold a pink dial is within the world of watches. Pink has long caught on, with references like the Grand Seiko SBGA413 being a fine example.

TUDOR X INTER MIAMI CFx

With the brand’s self-proclaimed ‘Born to Dare’ motto, I respectfully dare Tudor to create a pink-dialled and black-bezelled Tudor Black Bay 54 with Inter Miami CF branding either on the dial side at 6′ or, at the very least, engraved on the caseback – so that it is truly an Inter CF Miami watch. To make it even more special, it could be sold exclusively to in-person visitors at Inter Miami’s Chase Stadium, or, better for the rest of us, a Tudor boutique edition sold worldwide. C’mon Tudor… You know you want to. Then again, the Black Bay Chrono Pink has been billed to be low production. Tudor explains, “only a small number of examples will be produced.” Now handing over to Russell who spent part of his week down by the river.

TAG on the Thames

Sky Brown x TAG Heuer

This week I found myself on the banks of the river Thames being hosted by TAG Heuer for a rather unusual event as the brand’s youngest brand ambassador and skateboarding phenom, Sky Brown, was performing a series of gravity-defying tricks on a half-pipe that was floating on a barge on the river itself. It was quite a spectacle to behold, with Tower Bridge and London’s skyscrapers in the background, as the 15-year-old World Champion pulled off her signature Japan Air while looking down at the rather murky waters.

There were moments when not everything went to plan and she had to bail off her board to gasps from the on-looking commuters who had stopped on their way to work, but she seemed to brush the impacts off as easily as the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph. The ramp that was specially constructed for this event has now been donated to a skate park in Nottingham, as Sky is extremely keen to do all she can to help other kids get into the sport. Despite her age, Sky has already competed and medalled at one Olympic Games and will be competing in Paris later this year for Team GB with high hopes, after being crowned World Champion just last year.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Shameless self-promotion here, but c’mon – my first-ever Breguet! While I had to sadly part with two very dear watches to make this happen, when I saw this Daniel Roth-era Breguet Classique Perpetual Calendar 3057 up for sale it was love at first sight. Just look at the fully hand-engraved movement and beautiful solid gold guilloche dial – it is also in my preferred 36mm case size as well. Which watches left the collection? Well, you’ll have to wait for the return of my Trading Faces column to find out…

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak has always captured a sense of opulence. Not only has it become the quintessential luxury sports watch over the years, it was actually the watch that started the trend in the 1970s. Now just a few years beyond its 50th anniversary, Borna looks back and selects five of his favourite Royal Oak references from each of the five decades.
