Tissot & Time+Tide launch the PRX UFO Robot Grendizer with a cozy crowd in Melbourne’s laneways

Tucked away in a lane within a lane, Melbourne’s Robot Bar was host to the unveiling of the Tissot PRX UFO Robot Grendizer: the perfect surrounding for the launch, especially considering Robot Bar’s anime Tuesdays. Jamie and I had the pleasure of attending (with Jamie on hosting duties for the night too), mingling with the crowd made up of watch and anime lovers, and as it tends to go with the usual T+T crowd, topics of discussion tend to be quite a bit more broad than just those.

But, back to the one at hand! Alongside being the first to see our review of the PRX Grendizer, we also shared an exclusive chat with Tissot CEO Sylvain Dolla, who was the driving force behind the collaboration, being a fan of the Grendizer anime as a kid.

Naturally, attendees were also able to experience the watches first-hand: to make sure the lume dials didn’t go unnoticed, the showcase area was equipped with UV lighting that not only made the lume pop but also the white highlights of Grendizer’s Spazer vehicle. It also made for a great wrist shot opportunity, considering it made even the subtlest of lume plots pop.

It was a pleasure collaborating with Tissot on the unveiling of this watch. Enjoy the weekend ahead!

Watch meme of the week: the coolest brand CEO?

maxbussermbf

Late last night, news dropped of Chanel’s purchase of a 25% stake in MB&F. The French luxury maison is no stranger to this, having already invested in F.P. Journe, Romain Gauthier, and Bell & Ross. Clearly, the news travelled fast enough for the meme pages to jump on board right away – but not fast enough to outwit Max Büsser…

Wristshot of the week: Baume & Mercier Shogun

Don’t worry, your screen is displaying this correctly, this is just the kind of quirky stuff Baume & Mercier got up to in the 1990s. This two-tone quartz oddity was designed by Jean-Claude Gueit, and the penchant for panache was clearly passed down to his son, Emmanuel – the designer of the Royal Oak Offshore, among many others.

Time+Tide Shop pick of the week: Nivada Grenchen F77 Meteorite

Nivada Grenchen F77 Titanium Meteroite Case 1

You wouldn’t necessarily pick Nivada Grenchen to release a titanium watch with a meteorite dial, and yet the brand that so heavily leans on vintage inspiration for its new releases managed to envelop the F77 Meteorite in those sweet, sweet ’70s vibes. There’s a distinct softness to the case despite the sharp transitions in finish, and the pattern of the dial is just as spectacular as you may expect from a slice of space rock.

Discover the Nivada Grenchen F77 Meteorite in the Time+Tide Shop, either online or in our Melbourne Discovery Studio. Price: US$1,985 (titanium bracelet)

Our favourite Time+Tide coverage of the week

“I’d like to tell the women out there that having a bigger watch on your wrist is actually a very nice thing.” Ada Hegerberg, first-ever winner of Ballon d’Or Féminin

In the third episode of our Watches And podcast, Andrew sits down with Norwegian football superstar Ada Hegerberg. Apart from winning the aforementioned Ballon d’Or Féminin, she’s also a six-time Champions League winner, alongside holding numerous individual accolades. Someone like that is bound to have some good stories, and thankfully for us, they also include watches.

Holy grail responses feature

To cap off the editorial team’s discussion around the modern relevance of the Holy Trinity of PP, VC, and AP, we took it to Instagram to settle it once and for all. As always, you had thoughts, and you didn’t hesitate to let us know. Buffy explores the vox populi.
