VIDEO: Bulgari’s new Aluminium Capri and Match Point get a splash of summer-ready colour
Borna BošnjakDespite being launched during the 2023 edition of Watches & Wonders, Bulgari’s summer-ready intentions were clear with their latest Aluminium limited edition duo. Named the Capri and Match Point, both seem perfectly capable companions for any holiday adventure, whether it be dipping into the azure waters off the Italian coast, or playing three points of tennis before collapsing into the nearest deck chair.
A single glance at either of these time-only, or Solotempo, models will reveal no less than five Bulgari logos. Two are reserved for the bezel, one for the dial, while two flank the case on either side, emblazoned into the first link of the rubber strap. It’s by no means a subtle design, though the Aluminium had little difficulty capturing the hearts of even the most die-hard enthusiasts. Its aluminium construction will be sure to surprise you at first, somewhat due to the smooth matte finish, but mostly because of how airy it feels.
Of the two new Solotempo models, the Match Point Edition is perhaps the more curious. The eagle-eyed among you will have noticed that the crown is in a “destro” configuration, nestling in on the less-common left side of the case. This is perhaps for the budding Rafas of the future, but if they want their watch to remain on their left wrist, the position reduces the chance of the crown digging into the back of their hand when swinging for the ball. To aid the comfort as much as possible, the Match Point Edition’s rubber link strap only extends halfway, the rest of it replaced by a velcro strap.
Flipping the crown to the more traditional right side, but otherwise retaining the dimensions of the 40mm case, the Capri edition is more concerned with replicating the vibes of the Italian island, including the blue of the surrounding Mediterranean. Both watches are powered with Bulgari-branded variants of the ETA 2892, a slimmer, more premium alternative when compared to the well-loved 2824.
