The Christopher Ward C60 Trident Lumière is the brand’s most refined dive watch yet
Buffy Acacia- Boasting a titanium case and a trio of retro dial finishes, the C60 Trident Lumière combines tool watch bona fides with on-point vibes.
- It features Globolight lume made from fusing Super-LumiNova and ceramic for a three-dimensional glow.
- The movement is a COSC-certified Sellita SW300-1, aiding the slimness of the 10.85mm case.
There’s no shortage of bang-for-buck Swiss dive watches out there, but if you’re in the market for one, Christopher Ward should always be considered. The C60 Trident has been one of its best-sellers for 15 years now, and it has constantly evolved to keep up with the latest trends and expectations of quality. The most recent version is the Christopher Ward C60 Trident Lumière, which places just as much emphasis on its luminescence as its technical specifications.
Pretty much every watch enthusiast already has the ‘Swiss diver’ slot in their watch box filled. If any brand is going to get past that hurdle, they need to find a point of difference. The new Christopher Ward C60 Trident Lumière ticks a lot of boxes in that regard, and in far more ways than its attractive dial colours. Firstly, the 41mm case is made from titanium and has a 47.9mm lug-to-lug length. Not only does that make it comfortable due to its light weight and wrist-conforming size, but the total thickness of 10.85mm is quite impressive for a proper deep-sea dive watch with 300m of water resistance and an automatic movement. To prove that it’s appropriate for professional saturation divers, the watches also have a helium escape valve built into the case.
Dial legibility is always one of the most important aspects of a dive watch, and Christopher Ward has gone the extra mile here. The hands are completely different shapes and sizes for easy differentiation, the seconds hand with its trident-shaped counterbalance is a reminder that the watch is running, and the inverse triangle at 12 o’clock provides adequate orientation. What really shines here is the method of after-dark luminosity, utilising three-dimensional luminous structures rather than just layers of paint. Known as Globolight and produced by Xenoprint, this lume is created by fusing Swiss Super-LumiNova with ceramic material. This ensures an incredibly strong glow when the lights are out, and also allows for faceted edges on the applied luminous hour markers.
Behind the lume, the granulated dial has been made available in three fumé variations. The first is a light oceanic blue, the second a dark grey, and the third a punchy orange. You may assume the bezel insert is aluminium due to its matte finish but it’s actually brushed ceramic. In terms of scratch resistance, the bezel and sapphire crystal have got you covered – that said, the Grade 2 titanium case is fairly soft and will scratch more easily than steel. The watch is powered by the Sellita SW300-1 which is COSC-certified for accuracy within -4/+6 seconds per day, with a power reserve of 54 hours and a 4Hz beat rate. The titanium bracelet is also noteworthy for featuring on-the-fly micro-adjustment thanks to a button in the clasp.
