The one millionth MoonSwatch is heading to auction
Russell SheldrakeYou read that correctly. The one millionth Swatch x Omega MoonSwatch to roll off the production line in Biel is heading to auction at Christie’s in November. The watch itself is listed as a Mission to Neptune that has been given a moonshine gold seconds hand, a special engraving under the battery cover and a trophy stand with ‘1,000,000’ engraved on it.
Although to us, it looks just like the Mission to Moonshine Gold Blue Moon that was brought out in August 2023.
It’s no secret that we’ve closely followed the path of the MoonSwatch over the years. Whether we were covering the launch back in 2022, getting a marketing guru to explain the hype, or when they finally brought Snoopy into the collection. We’ve been there for all of it, and this latest charity auction is just the next step.
Swatch is no stranger to celebrating these gargantuan milestones, in 1984 they marked the one millionth Swatch by suspending a 13-ton yellow Swatch off the side of a building in Frankfurt. While this special creation isn’t quite on that scale, it is aimed at doing some good by raising money for ELA International (European Leukodystrophy Association). Leukodystrophy is a set of genetic disorders affecting the white matter of the brain, mainly affecting young children and infants.
Alongside this milestone-MoonSwatch there are a number of other special pieces that are being auctioned off the raise money, including an Andersen Genève World Timer, Ulysse Nardin Freak, Bovet Récital 12, and Richard Mille RM65-01, all of which have been specially created for the auction.
This isn’t the first time a MoonSwatch has been auctioned off for charity either. Back in February of this year, 11 briefcases with all 11 Moonshine gold versions in were sold off by Sotheby’s to benefit the Orbis charity. That sale totalled an impressive CHF 534,670.
This latest charity auction is taking place as part of Christie’s regular Rare Watches sale that will happen on November 11 in Geneva.
