Three more Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF 36mm references for the glamorous at heart

Just when Parmigiani Fleurier’s Tonda PF releases were starting to get a bit too repetitive, the reinvigorated brand finally came out with the Toric collection for a familiar yet fresh new look. That said, it seems there were still some gaps in the Tonda PF catalogue to fill. Doing away with any shy notions of stealth wealth or subtlety are three new references of the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Automatic 36mm, embracing glamour with the help of 18k pink gold and diamonds.
The 36mm version of the Tonda PF was first released in 2022, bringing its sophisticated sports style down to a modest size. They are primarily marketed as women’s watches, but considering the prevalence of both rose gold and diamonds in men’s watches in recent years, there’s nothing here which any gender couldn’t pull off with the right attitude. The lug-to-lug length is a highly accessible 41mm, and the 8.6mm thickness keeps it together as a slender, tight package. There have been rose gold references before too, but not with these dial configurations.
Let’s start off with the most accessible of the new trio – the white-dialled reference in a two-tone case. The dial is named “white citrine”, which is a little confusing seeing as citrine is actually golden orange. Nevertheless, it’s a rosy white which really accentuates the rich grain d’orge guilloché texture of the dial. Baguette-cut diamonds form the hour markers for a touch of sparkle and decadence without going overboard. The case and bracelet are predominantly stainless steel, which actually seems to bring out the brightness of the gold and reduce its rosiness slightly.
Next we have the version with a “warm grey” dial that makes those baguette diamonds sing. The stark contrast between a faceted white stone and a dark background is great for legibility, and also makes their size more impressive. Here the whole case and bracelet are made from 18k pink gold, carrying luxurious heft along with them, and the fluted bezel is also set with a ring of round brilliant-cut diamonds.
Finally, the “sand gold” model nearly blends its beige dial in with the gold, creating a draping bracelet of uniform opulence across the wrist. The whole piece is hemmed by set diamonds, some of them being impressively large on the lugs, and that carries all the way around to the butterfly clasp.
All of these watches are powered by the in-house calibre PF770, that boasts some impressive specifications for its size. It has a 4Hz beat rate and a 60-hour power reserve with automatic winding, despite being just 3.9mm tall. The sapphire display caseback gives you a view of the movement’s modest but expert finishing, as well as the 22k gold skeletonised winding rotor. Considering the overall 8.6mm thickness of the cases, retaining 100 metres of water resistance for all of them is highly admirable. Most wouldn’t want to take their 18k gold watches swimming, especially not one set with diamonds across the bracelet, but the fact that you could is exciting.
