The new Maurice de Mauriac Rallymaster III offers a grass court dial in time for Wimbledon
Zach Blass- The Maurice de Mauriac Rallymaster III is the third in a series of tennis-inspired wristwatches with Racquet magazine.

- It features a green, grass court-inspired dial, and for the first time 18k rose gold accents.
Last year, alongside the US Open tennis tournament, Maurice de Mauriac and Racquet magazine launched the Rallymaster II – the second in a series of tennis-inspired watches. Just in time for the British Grand Slam, Maurice de Mauriac has launched the Rallymaster III with a green, grass court-inspired dial in honour of Wimbledon.
Much of the Rallymaster III continues the previous framework, a remix of the prior winning formula – a smart move considering the previous editions sold out almost immediately according to the brand. We once again have a 100-metre water-resistant, 39mm, stainless-steel case, but its screw-down crown has been elevated to a case-contrasting 18k 3N gold. With a sporty slender 12mm thickness and a 47mm lug-to-lug length, its highly wearable daily driver appeal has been maintained.
The most obvious point of differentiation for the Rallymaster III is its grass court-inspired dial, but it is identical in layout to its predecessors. Once again designed by Carlton DeWoody, a Los Angeles-based creative best known for interior design, we still have the net motif across the centre and tennis ball-shaped applied indices. And in a more poetic sense, we still have the ’70s vibes which always reminded me of Wes Anderson’s signature look. The rosy hues of the hands and indices are a first, and I love how the cyclops-enlarged date window has been rendered in an accent-matching tan-on-green disc. Also, the sub-seconds at 9 o’clock has been slightly tweaked, with sectors of brown, pink, and tan. These twenty-second sectors were inspired by a previously held twenty-second service time limit.
Like previous editions, the Rallymaster III is bundled with two straps. Maurice de Mauriac has opted to outfit it on tan leather, with the idea evoking a well-known racing aesthetic. You then have a choice between an additional tan stretch fabric strap, or the same material in green. All of these strap use quick-release systems so you can quickly swap between them. Inside, beneath a laser-etched exhibition caseback, we yet again have the automatic Landeron 24 movement with 40 hours of power reserve.
While some may not love the US$500 bump up to US$2,400, for those looking for a smart, design-forward daily-wearer that hits all the right specs, the third edition of the Rallymaster serves up an intriguing proposition – especially if you are a tennis fan.
