The Wren Diver One Snow is sub-$1k, with a sandwich dial, Sellita movement, and both a strap and bracelet

Collaborations between brands and watch publications is nothing new, but it’s not every day you see a watch brand founded by someone who has also started their own watch publication. Craig Karger, the founder of Wrist Enthusiast, launches Wren in 2023, releasing his first watch earlier this year. The Diver One Aqua featured a smoky blue-green dial with fauxtina accents, and was followed by the monochromatic Diver One Sand. Today, Wren is launching a new, wintery take on its dive watch – the Diver One Snow.
The 200-metre water-resistant Diver One Snow retains its predecessor’s dimensions of 41mm in diameter, 13.3mm in height including the boxed crystal, and relatively compact 47mm lug-to-lug measurement. Where the watch has changed, however, is that the timing scale beneath the sapphire bezel is now fully luminous rather than just the triangular pip. The sandwich dial, now outfitted with a crisp white luminous disc beneath the blue-white gradient, feels much brighter and, well… Wintery? It certainly feels that way in comparison to the prior models that had its handset and luminous disc coloured with fauxtina.
The addition of a fully luminous timing scale better aligns with the already brightly glowing sandwich dial. For those unaware, a dial with a sandwich construction refers to a two-layer construction. The bottom layer is a luminous disc, while the upper features cutouts that allow the lume to shine through from beneath. The result is a much brighter glow, which in turn vastly ups the legibility in darkness.
The Wren Diver One previously had the advantage of being offered with both a flat-link bracelet and FKM rubber strap bundled together. This time around, Wren increases versatility for its buyers by allowing you to select between one of three coloured FKM rubber straps alongside the bracelet. Having held the watch, I very impressed by the fact Wren went to the length of having a bespoke FKM mould created for a watch at this price point. As a result, the rubber strap sits perfectly flush to the case with zero gap.
I would personally pick the white strap to lean into the chill of the snow-inspired dial, but you certainly can’t go wrong with blue or black. The blue strap, however, best pairs with the watch colour-wise, as its bezel and dial both use blue. All the straps have quick-release tabs, so you can easily swap between the bracelet and your rubber strap of choice.
Ticking beneath a solid caseback engraved with the Wren logo is the automatic Sellita SW200 movement with 38 hours of power reserve. It’s a solid calibre that delivers reliable performance while also allowing Wren to keep the price of the watch down. Previous iterations were US$100 cheaper, but considering what you’re getting here for your US$965. It’s a Swiss-made diver with friendly proportions, a handsome gradient dial with ample lume, and both a bracelet and a rubber strap. I think it’s quite a fair price for an off-the-beaten-path option, for those looking for an affordable daily wearer.
While previous iterations were priced just a tad lower at US$895, for US$965, considering you are getting a Swiss made diver that has a wrist-friendly lug-to-lug span of 47mm with a handsome gradient dial, ample lume, and bundled bracelet and choice of FKM Rubber strap, I think it is quite a fair price and off the beaten path option for people looking for a lower-cost daily wearer for their collection.
